Soulmated_ShailaPatel_1600x2400_seriestitle.jpgTwo souls. One Fate.

Eighteen-year-old Liam Whelan, an Irish royal empath, has been searching for his elusive soulmate. The rare union will cement his family’s standing in empath politics and afford the couple legendary powers, while also making them targets of those seeking to oust them.

Laxshmi Kapadia, an Indian-American high school student from a traditional family, faces her mother’s ultimatum: Graduate early and go to medical school, or commit to an arranged marriage.

When Liam moves next door to Laxshmi, he’s immediately and inexplicably drawn to her. In Liam, Laxshmi envisions a future with the freedom to follow her heart.

Liam’s father isn’t convinced Laxshmi is “The One” and Laxshmi’s mother won’t even let her talk to their handsome new neighbor. Will Liam and Laxshmi defy expectations and embrace a shared destiny? Or is the risk of choosing one’s own fate too great a price for the soulmated?

My Review

five-stars

I quite simply LOVED this book. The characters were well-developed and easily relatable, there was a beautiful magic system, and I got absolutely swept up in the romance of it all.

Liam is quite frankly the most charming character that I’ve read in a while, which is saying something, since as a book blogger, I read A LOT. I dare anyone to read this book and not fall head-over-heels for my new Irish book bae. He has set new standards for book boyfriends. Watch out Mr. Darcy!

Lakshmi is not to be overlooked though. She is not only an extremely likable character, but she’s also very relatable. You can’t help but fall in love with her as well, and when you get the two of them together WATCH. OUT. They take the term “sparks fly” to a whole new level.

I love a good empath story, particularly one that is romantic in nature. In the case of Soulmated I think their ability to sense one another’s emotions really heightened the overall romantic tension throughout the book, and made it that much more swoony and adorable.

I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the magic system and learned more about how it all works. I also want to see more of Liam’s home in Ireland and the empath community he’s a part of, because it’s all very intriguing. However, that is what sequels are for! And I can’t wait for more magic, more world building, and more of this INCREDIBLE romance in the next book.

Also, reader be warned, there is a cliffhanger ending to this one that dang near KILLED me, but it was so worth it. Do not wait! Order this one today and get your swoon on!

Cover Rating

five-stars

I love this cover! It’s not only REALLY pretty, but it also hints at the magical elements in this story as well as the diversity in the characters. It’s also sparkly, and I just love me some sparkly book covers!

Swoon Worthiness

five-stars

There are a lot of things that Shaila Patel got right in this book, but when it comes to the art of the swoon, well, she’s PERFECTED it. I can’t think of a single way this book could have been more swoony. Liam is beyond swoon-worthy, and can I just say that I am DYING to learn more about this “joining.” It sounds…intriguing.

Your title sounds spot on– I haven’t read many books featuring empaths, certainly none which fall into the YA category. I didn’t used to be into romance, but I’m definitely starting to get on that train. Thanks for the review! I’ll have to keep an eye out for this at my local library.
