Illuminae Paperback Review and Giveaway!

ILLUMINAE.jpg

The hardcover version of Illuminae is stunning, the audio version of Illuminae is stunning, so it should come as no surprise then that the paperback version that just released this week is equally as incredible! For those of you who haven’t read this book yet, DO IT! Illuminae is a reading experience unlike any other.

Wine Pairing

I recommend sipping on a glass of Caelum Cabernet Sauvignon while reading Illuminae. Not only does the galactic themed label perfectly match this masterpiece of YA science fiction, but the robust and unique flavor are a great pairing for the innovative approach Kaufman and Kristoff have taken with the Illuminae Files.

It certainly filled the Battlestar Galactica-shaped hole in my heart.- –Victoria Aveyard, bestselling author of The Red Queen

Read the New York Times bestselling blockbuster that critics are calling -out-of-this-world awesome.- The first in an epic sci-fi series unlike anything else out there.

Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the worst thing she’d ever been through. That was before her planet was invaded. Now, with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating craft, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship could be the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their biggest threat; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady plunges into a web of data hacking to get to the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: Ezra.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents–including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more–Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Brace yourself, because you’re about to be immersed in a mindscape that you’ll never want to leave.- –Marie Lu, author of the bestselling Legend series

My Review

five-stars

I am so thrilled to be participating in the blog tour for the paperback release of Illuminae. Not only because this is one of my very favorite book series, but also because these books have the most innovative approach to storytelling that I’ve ever experienced, and I was dying to see what the paperback version would be like.

I fell in love with the hardcover and getting to visually see the different forms of media this story was told through was just so cool. The audiobook made me cry, and it wasn’t even during a super emotional scene in the book. It was just because of how beautifully the story was told. And now this paperback is the perfect addition to the collection for us Illuminae lovers. It would also be a great way to get started in the series if you haven’t already.

The story that’s told within these pages, is every bit as gorgeous and captivating as its exterior. There is a large cast of dynamic characters, and the way that Kristoff and Kaufman switch between the various POVs is expertly done. Reading this book feels like watching a movie, a really, REALLY beautiful movie.

The plot is fast-paced, high-stakes, and utterly addictive. There is an awesome romance that actually feels like an authentic teen romance. And the world-building is just on a level of its own.

This is probably the only book that I’ve ever read that I would say readers NEED to experience in multiple formats. I would definitely recommend grabbing a copy of this new paperback and then immediately listening to the audio version afterwards. I have never experienced an audiobook like Illuminae before, nor have I seen a physical book like Illuminae before, and believe me, you don’t want to miss out on either version.

Wow, this sounds really interesting! 😀 It’s definitely going on my TBR list. On a sort of random side note: I’m always so impressed when people manage to co-write books. It must involve a lot of good teamwork and the ability to bend and compromise.

    1. I totally agree. I can’t imagine working with someone on a creative level like that. I don’t know if I’d be able to make those kind of artistic compromises.

    1. Yes! These books and The Diabolic are probably my favorite YA Sci-fi novels. What about you?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Ooo THe Diabolic sounds cool – our current YA Sci-fi fave gotta be Red Rising and Hunger Games (the second one the most really) – we are a bit behind on our Sci-fi reading but hopefully we get to read more of it later on ☺ 🤞

  9. This has to be a wonderful book if it made you cry! I’d heard a lot about its original format before and thought it was quite interesting. But I’ve read not so great reviews as well.
I need to try it for myself 🙂 Great review, Krysti! 😊

    1. It is an amazing book, but it was just how beautifully done that audiobook is. I listen to A LOT of audiobooks, and I’ve never listened to anything like that before. You’ll have to let me know if you do read it, Sophie! I’d love to chat with you about it.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Definitely will, Krysti! Since I’ve had so little free time lately, an audiobook might be the perfect solution to getting some reading done 😉

      2. It’s the only way I can get through so many to be honest. I love audiobooks!

      3. I need to start listening to more audiobooks then because I’m finding it so hard to read books nowadays!

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Oh, it’s the only way I can do it, Sophie! I mean, I read physical/ebooks too, but I seriously wouldn’t get through 1/2 as many without audiobooks.

  10. I adore your review! This is also one of my favorite books– I accidentally picked it up and just completely fell in love. Epistolary novels are some of my favorites, but this blew my expectations for them out of the water. I haven’t listened to the audiobook yet. But I should, apparently? Let’s do this!

    1. Thanks, Jackie! I’ve had such an amazing experience while reading this book in all its various formats. I would definitely recommend that audiobook. I wish there were more audiobooks that had such a large cast and incredible audio effects. It was so much fun.
