RETRIBUTION RAILS and Wild West YA Novels

I hope everyone had a wonderful, book-filled weekend! I know I did! One of the books that I got to enjoy over the holiday weekend was Erin Bowman’s upcoming Retribution Rails, the captivating companion novel to Vengeance Road. I won’t be posting my full review until we’re a bit closer to release date, but I will say that I just loved this book! It’s an utterly immersive adventure full of unforgettable characters and some simmering romance to boot!

Retribution Rails was actually the first YA novel set in the “wild west” that I had ever read, and Bowman’s mastery of setting and dialogue was so impressive and immersive, it got me thinking, what other YA western novels am I missing out on? So I did a little research and came up with this list of YA westerns to help get me started!

About Retribution Rails

33413926REDEMPTION IS NEVER FREE
When Reece Murphy is forcibly dragged into the Rose Riders gang because of a mysterious gold coin in his possession, he vows to find the man who gave him the piece and turn him over to the gang in exchange for freedom. Never does he expect a lead to come from an aspiring female journalist. But when Reece’s path crosses with Charlotte Vaughn after a botched train robbery and she mentions a promising rumor about a gunslinger from Prescott, it becomes apparent that she will be his ticket to freedomβ€”or a noose. As the two manipulate each other for their own ends, past secrets are unearthed, reviving a decade-old quest for revenge that may be impossible to settle.

In this thrilling companion to Vengeance Road, dangerous alliances are formed, old friends meet new enemies, and the West is wilder than ever.

I read my ARC of Retribution Rails about two weeks ago too and absolutely loved it! The plot and characters are just fantastic, and you’re right about the setting being excellent! I already posted my review for it because I just couldn’t wait! I’m definitely going to be picking up Vengeance Road and other westerns if they’re all as good as this!

I didn’t realize there were so many YA wild west settings. Personally, it is not one of my favorite settings – me and wild west don’t mix for some odd reason – but my best friend loves it. I see a few books that I totally will need to push over to her. RUIN HER TBR, MUHAHA. Okay, I’m apparently really tired and that seemed so lame looking back at it now. I’m going to stop. Brilliant post as usual, Krysti! <3

Vengeance Road is AMAZING. You need to read it asap. I can’t wait for Retribution Rails AND she’s coming out with a novella based on the characters from Vengeance Road. Thanks for this list because I definitely love YA westerns. I need to read all of these!

Oh, I ADORE Vengeance Road! It’s the first Western novel I’ve ever read. I didn’t think I’d like them, but now I’m totally hooked! I totally left Gunslinger Girl off this list! It doesn’t come out until 2018, so it slipped my mind, but the cover is AMAZING!
