He’s from 1892 England, she’s in a small library in 2017. And that’s just the start of their troubles.

Emme never meant to stay in Maine. She’d come only to find a librarian for her Gram’s library, a custodian for the collection of mysterious books she’d promised to protect. On a dark, wintery night, alone in the library, she takes her first glance into one of the antique novels and finds herself transported to 1892 England staring into the eyes of handsome and dashing hero Jack Ridgewell. As each chapter passes she learns you can truly fall in love with a character in a book, that book boyfriends are real and Emme must choose between the real world, and his.

When the last page is read he’s gone and Emme feels the cold loneliness of lost love. Will she find Jack again, or will their love be forever lost? The answer lies within the pages…

Q&A with Christy

I ADORE this concept of book boyfriends becoming real! This is a voracious reader’s dream come true. If you could pick any one book boyfriend to truly fall in love with, who would it be?

There was a time when I would’ve said Edward Cullen, but my eleven year old daughter stole him. So I’m going to go with Rhysand, from A Court of Mist and Fury. He’s ah-mazingly hot. I love a good badboy

There is just something so charming about the Victorian Era. What are some of your favorite novels set in that time period?

I loved Libba Bray’s A Great and Terrible Beauty. I’m also a huge fan  of The Infernal Devices. There is something about that era that makes me want to travel there by book.

I think so many readers can relate to the idea of feeling like you’ve lost a friend (or book boyfriend) when you reach the end of a novel. What inspired you to incorporate that feeling into your plot?

I’ve read a lot of books and I know what that feeling does to you when you are finished with a book. I know that you want more and you have a major book hangover. I wanted Emme to feel that, and also the readers. I wanted readers to connect with Emme on a personal level. To feel like they could be her.

I’m definitely getting a star-crossed lovers vibe from this book. What do you think draws us book lovers to that trope?

I think most readers are diehard romantics. Even if we say we’re not, we do love a good romance. Especially one where we wish for the lovers to be together. We just want to know that at least somewhere out there love is still alive and kicking.

Who was your favorite character in this book to write and why?

Emmeline was by far my favorite. She so unlike me in so many ways and I loved exploring that. Many times I will put a bit of myself in my MC, but I did the opposite with Emme. I loved writing her journey into Jack’s world and also into the secret society she becomes part of. She grows so much in this story.

I have to be honest, the first thought I had when I saw this cover was, haven’t I seen this before? *lol* The cover is a total case of deja vu with The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler.

I do think this plot sounds interesting. Any story set in a library or having a connection to one is intriguing to me. Time travel is also a tic on the list because who doesn’t dream of that? Granted I’m not sure Emme is going to like it but we’ll see!

Which book person would I want in real life? Hm…Xander from All the Feels or Charlie from Queens of Geek. <3

I hadn’t seen The Book of Speculation before, but just pulled it up, and you are SO RIGHT. They are so similar. I have never read All the Feels or Queens of Geek, but I just got All the Feels, so hopefully I’ll enjoy this Xander you speak of as much as you did. 🙂

I love this concept! How many of us have wished to get inside a book or just have our favorite characters jump out to hang out with us? I know I have… Especially book boyfriends XD
This one sounds like a mix between Outlander, The Book Jumper and something else. Which is great! And that cover… Yes, totally agree that it’s lovely! <3
