Stop the Magician.

Steal the book.

Save the future.

In modern day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Thank you! I loved her answers so much, and that cover is so cool! I was hooked before I even read the synopsis. 🙂

    • KrystiYAandWine says:

Thanks, Mandy!!! The magic system does sound fascinating! I agree. I would so go back to the 1920s. That would definitely be the era I’d pick too. As you already know. 🙂 We can do that after we go sasquatch hunting. 🙂

I finished reading my eARC this morning and I have to say, I was originally super intimidated by how long it was but it was a fantastic book. I really wish I didn’t have to wait for the next book! I’d also loooove to see more stories set in this world after this duology is finished. I thought the world was really freaking cool and I’d really love to see more of it.

    • KrystiYAandWine says:

I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I actually love long fantasy novels. Long contemporary novels sometimes feel like too much. I loved the answers to her interview questions, and I was super excited to hear that there was some potential for more as well. Thanks for coming over to check out the interview, Kourtni!

      • Kourtni @ Kourtni Reads says:

I don’t dislike long fantasy novels, but they definitely intimidate me, haha. I know fantasy takes me awhile to read anyway and then when the book is 500+ pages I get nervous that I’m going to end up reading the same book for 3 weeks 😛 But yeah I seriously loved this one!!

      • KrystiYAandWine says:

I’m totally with you there. Sometimes a nice contemporary that’s around 300 pages or less is SO NICE. I love fantasy as well, it’s just daunting when the books are so big, and the TBRs are SOOOO long. 🙂 You have great taste in books, so I’m thrilled to hear you say that.

I couldn’t help myself! I was about to head to bed but I took a peak cuz I LOVED this book so much! Omygosh! I’m so glad I did, Lisa she’s some light on the Magic system. I was a bit unsure as to why their affinities waned but figured it kept happening as generations went by. Now I know that it’s a direct cause of them leaving their homelands 😃I’m feeling Enlightened! 😆 & Kourtni from Kourtnireads told me you asked THE QUESTION in this interview and that Lisa confirmed it’s a duology so you my friend are also a reason for my awesomeness Sunday! Cuz THAT ending had me 👀! 😂 great interview! 💕

    • KrystiYAandWine says:

Hahaha! I just read your last comment (which I’m terribly behind on comments, so sorry about that!) I love getting more information from authors on their books. It always opens my eyes to so much that I didn’t catch when I was reading, and then I enjoy the books even more. And yes! Duology!!! Yay!!! Thank you!!! ❤
