THE BIRDS, THE BEES, and YOU AND ME by 2019 debut author Olivia Hinebaugh is the latest book I’ve fallen in love with! Check out my review below to find out why!

Seventeen-year-old Lacey Burke is the last person on the planet who should be doling out sex advice. For starters, she’s never even kissed anyone, and she hates breaking the rules. Up until now, she’s been a straight-A music geek that no one even notices. All she cares about is jamming out with her best friends, Theo and Evita.

But then everything changes.

When Lacey sees first-hand how much damage the abstinence-only sex-ed curriculum of her school can do, she decides to take a stand and starts doling out wisdom and contraception to anyone who seeks her out in the girls’ restroom. But things with Theo become complicated quickly, and Lacey is soon not just keeping everyone else’s secrets, but hers as well.

MY Review

Oh my goodness! I fell head over heels for THE BIRDS, THE BEES, AND YOU AND ME by Olivia Hinebaugh! This is just one of those books that should absolutely be required reading in high school. It is so smart, sex-positive, and completely authentic.
This is one of those books that manages to deliver an important social message while still being incredibly entertaining (and did I mention swoony)?!
Lacey is one of the best female protagonists that I’ve encountered this year. She is such a wonderful example of different ways in which people can be strong. She is so genuine and lovely, and it was an absolute pleasure to read about her. I was cheering from her from page 1!
Her friend group is my absolute favorite. They’re the kind of friends we all wish we had in high school, and that you’d love to hang out with on a Friday night. The romance manages to be completely swoony and romantic while still maintaining a hint of teenage awkwardness, which just made the book that much more authentic and enjoyable. This is such an important and entertaining read. Highly, highly recommend!
