What is Author Mentor Match?
Author Mentor Match is an incredible mentorship program that pairs aspiring writers with published, pre-published, or agented authors. This program is designed for writers (like me) who have completed their manuscripts, gone through at least one round of revisions, and are preparing for the querying process. Author mentors give feedback and advice to mentees on how to improve their query letter, their manuscript, and the list of agents they want to query.
Typically, querying authors only get one shot with an agent, so to have the opportunity to get feedback on how you can improve your manuscript and create a stellar query package is absolutely invaluable.
You can learn about the program by watching this video by Brightly Burning author, Alexa Donne.
If you’re an author interested in applying to the program, check out the website here for more details!
Submissions for Round Six of Author Mention Match open on March 1st and close on March 5th.
Wish me luck!!!
Why Do I Want to Be an Author Mentor Match Mentee?
Round 6 of Author Mentor Match has come at the perfect time for me. As many of you who follow me on social media already know, I finished drafting my novel in December and have been revising and polishing ever since. I hope to start querying my novel this May, so I am hungry for any feedback that will help me ensure my query letter and manuscript are in the best shape they can possibly be.
A few things I’m hoping to take away from the program if I’m selected as a mentee:
- Feedback on how to improve my query letter and make it as compelling as possible.
- An edit letter with the big picture feedback I need to get my manuscript query ready.
- General feedback on my writing and the elements I can improve upon.
- Feedback on the list of agents I’m planning to query.
- A new community of writer friends to actively engage with.
About My Project
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days meets The Fill in Boyfriend in this YA romantic comedy titled Chasing Stars. This manuscript is complete at 65,000 words.
The summer after she graduates from high school, seventeen-year-old Ada Datchery lands her dream internship, working as a celebrity photographer for the most prestigious agency in New York City. Ada is determined to do whatever it takes to make sure that internship turns into a permanent job offer. But with only one position up for grabs, Ada will have to go head-to-head with the other interns vying for the same position.
When Ada gets into an altercation with Liam Adams—Hollywood’s hottest teen celebrity whose penchant for antagonizing the paparazzi is making it difficult for him to secure a highly coveted role—she finds herself not the photographer, but the star of the latest tabloid scandal.
As rumors of an unlikely romance blossoming between these two bitter adversaries prove to boost not only Ada’s career but Liam’s as well, they decide there’s no harm in faking a relationship for the cameras. But with the line between what’s real and what’s pretend beginning to blur, will Ada be able to make her dreams come true without getting her heart broken?
Krysti Meyer is a book blogger, a bookstagrammer, an active member of her local book community, and the co-founder of the coolest book club in existence, YA and Wine. On the rare occasion she isn’t doing something book-related, she’s probably cheering for her favorite ultimate fighters, binge watching romcoms on Netflix, or playing board games with her family. She lives in Northern Utah with her husband and three mischievous pets. She dreams of one day being a contestant on Nailed It!
Publishing History: I have previously published short stories with publications such as Bards and Sages Quarterly, Beyond Centauri, and Luna Station Quarterly. I am a member of the RWA and blog about all things YA at YAandWine.com.
